Camping at Gwrych Castle, Abergele.

Roger Smith hitch-hiked from his home in Maple Road in Anerley to Gwrych Castle in Abergele, North Wales.  While there he got a job helping at a farm.

When at camp we cleared our tent each morning and rolled the sides up. Our kit was laid out in front of the tents. There was a prize at the end of the holiday for the tidiest tent

Annual Dinner.

A formal Anual Dinner was held each year where we had some interesting guest speakers which included Steve Race, Mr T Bunyan Bsc. F.R.A.E.S, and |Terry Walton vice president of MAYC - Our very first Annual Dinner was held on May 4th 1957 and cost 3/- John Meager, Jock Ballantyne, Guest Speakers and Rev George Lovell

Girls Life Brigade

The 1st Anerley Company of the Girls Life Brigade was an important part of Anerley Methodist Church in the 50's. The first Captain of the company was Captain Pitts, who was followed by Captain Payne . At Church Parade Services each month the church was full. The members were loyal and a tribute to the leaders Captain Payne, Leffie Ada Whitehead and Leffie Simpson. All Night Hikes

The Anerley Methodist Youth Club held an all night hike each year. We left for a country location on the last train of the day out from Anerley Station, Walked until sunrise when we held a short service before returning to Anerley on the first train of the day

Anerley Town Hall in 1956.

Price was three shillings - see History - Productions and click on "more" to view the ticket The giants head and huge boots were removed for the Saturday Matinee performance because the children in the audience were frightened of the Giant.

The ballet dancers were Hazel Smiths troupe and included Valerie Tomkins and Julia Smith

The main characters in the middle on this photo were Joyce Nicholls, Roy Webb, Gillian Patrick, Valerie Eldridge, The dame was ?? and Jock Ballantyne Baron Hardup

Sitting in the front are Roger Flitter, Len Maskell and Charlie Clarke Others in the cast were Pauline? , Jaqueline? Marian Barber, Ken Summers, John Bateman, Queenie Howard, Margaret Garrard, and Carolyn Collie.

In the back row wearing a bow tie is Fred Garrard our pianist.

Drums were played by either Dave Godfrey ar Dave Barber.
