Roger Smith hitch-hiked from his home in Maple Road in Anerley to Gwrych Castle in Abergele, North Wales. While there he got a job helping at a farm.

Girls Life Brigade
The 1st Anerley Company of the Girls Life Brigade was an important part of Anerley Methodist Church in the 50's. The first Captain of the company was Captain Pitts, who was followed by Captain Payne . At Church Parade Services each month the church was full. The members were loyal and a tribute to the leaders Captain Payne, Leffie Ada Whitehead and Leffie Simpson. All Night Hikes
The Anerley Methodist Youth Club held an all night hike each year. We left for a country location on the last train of the day out from Anerley Station, Walked until sunrise when we held a short service before returning to Anerley on the first train of the day
